FRINGE WORLD Awards are given to the best shows in each of the 10 genre categories. Genre-specific panels (comprising over 130 judges in total) are charged with scoring shows according to a scale of 0-to-5 stars. The highest scoring shows in each category become our nominees.

Award winners get cash, development support and direct touring opportunities as part of their award. The Department of Culture and the Arts is also able to support WA-based genre award winners through its ArtFlight program.

The Martin Sims Award for Best WA Production is our top-tier prize and the winning show receives $10,000 and support to tour their show to festivals that are part of the World Fringe Alliance.

The 2016 Martin Sims Award winner is The Great Ridolphi, presented by The Last Great Hunt. This one man show dances the line of mysticism and wonder. In a world of smoke and mirrors, in search of a man built around trickery and illusions, Victor unravels the mystery behind the identity of illusionist extraordinaire The Great Ridolphi.

A new Award was presented this year, the Blaz Award, for the best writing for performance by a WA writer. The Award honours Perth playwright George Blazevich who passed away in February 2016.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2016 FRINGE WORLD Awards.
